Black Dandyism Takes Over The Met Gala

Black Dandyism Takes Over The Met Gala

As it’s been for nearly every year since the inaugural event in 1948, celebrities graced the steps of The Metropolitan Museum of Art for the annual Met Gala. This year, the theme for fashion’s biggest night was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, with Black dandyism taking center stage.

More than just tailored suits, Black dandyism also extends to beauty. Coiffed, meticulous hairstyles serve as a necessary complement to the Black dandy style. Whether it’s Tyler, the Creator in a tailored, pastel suit and blonde bowl cut wig or Andre 3000 in suspenders and a sleek silk press, hair has been the cherry on top—and last night was no exception.

We’ve compiled some of our favorite looks from this year’s Met Gala. Let us know in the comments who your best-dressed of the night was.

Ego Nwodim

This sculpted style by Miles Jefferies turns Ego’s hair into a work of art atop her head.

ASAP Rocky

This braided take on finger waves is definitely one of our favorites from the night. Created by Tashana Miles, this look is a creative interpretation on traditional, slick, dandy hairstyles.

Regina King

Who needs a hat when you have this hair? Crafted by Jennifer Lord, Regina King’s Met Gala hair was nothing short of art.

Quinta Brunson

Quinta stunned by channeling Josephine Baker with this sharp pixie by Karen Miller.

Cardi B

This big hair by Tokyo Stylez, was the perfect finishing touch for Cardi B in this Burberry look.

Lizzo

Lizzo looked gorgeous in this old hollywood-esque blonde wig styled by Jared Henderson.
