What are V-Part Wigs and What's the Hype?!

We know it’s hard to keep up. From V-part wigs, U-part wigs to T-part wigs… another day, a new wig construction, right? Well, lucky for you, we’re explaining what V-part wigs are and why we love them!

What is it?

Although not entirely new, the sought-over V-part wigs derive from the classic U-part wigs. V-part wigs have a V-shaped opening at the very top of the wig - the tracks are sewn in a way that creates v-shape at the top.

Why we Love Them...

There are several things to love about V-part wigs, hence their recent popularity. Here are our top four fave-things-to-love-about-them!

1. No Lace = No Glue

There are no lace closures or lace frontals involved with V-part wigs, so you know what that means... no need for glue! V-part wigs are a great alternative for those who are either allergic to lace adhesives, have sensitive skin or simply just don’t like them - no scalp irritation here!

2. Cheap and Cheerful

One of our favourite reasons - V-part wigs are amongst some of the cheapest wigs on the market. The machine-constructed wigs are a lot more affordable since they do not require the tedious construction of lace frontals or closures. While a 14" body-wave frontal unit on UNice hair would cost you 158.77, a 14" body-wave V-part unit on the same site would cost you £108.17 - £50 off!

3. Beginner-Friendly

It's true that a certain degree of skill is required when styling lace frontale/closure wigs. From bleaching, cutting and trying to hide your lace, one can end up spending countless hours to get it 'right'. And lucky for you, these are things you never need to worry about with V-part wigs. They’re also super easy to put on and remove, with the usual help of slide-in grips at the wig opening...we love a stress-free hairstyle! 4. Get The Natural Look

Unlike most wigs, V-part wigs allow you to show off the natural glory of your hairline. This makes it pretty difficult for people to detect that you're actually wearing a wig - you never have to worry about your lace matching your hairline again! Even better, you won’t find unnatural bulks and bumps on V-part wigs as they either have ‘no weft on top, or the weft is so thin, unseamed, and flat that it is impossible to detect’. For all our natural-wig lovers, this wig might have to be your next try - head over to our previous blog post that offers 15 tips on how to make your wigs look more natural and less ‘wiggy’!

Finding the right wig is a journey, and we strongly believe that there is a wig out there for everyone! If you haven't had much luck with the lace-based wigs, why not try a V-part wig for a more natural, less-chemically-invasive hairstyle? Let us know in the comments if you’ve tried one before, or, if you're considering trying one in the future...

Before you start

What you need

Get this right
from the start

Most fit problems trace back to how the measurement was taken, not the number itself.

A soft fabric measuring tape — metal tapes give inaccurate readings.
With or without wig cap? If you plan to wear one, measure with it on.
Snug, not tight. The tape should sit firmly but not indent your skin.
A mirror or a friend. A second set of hands improves accuracy.
Circumference

Step 01 · Primary measurement

The anchor

Circumference

Place the tape around your head at the hairline — approximately ¼ inch above your eyebrows and ears. Bring it around the back at the base of your skull. Keep the tape parallel to the floor the entire way around.

Why it mattersThis is the primary anchor. When you're between sizes, circumference is always the tiebreaker.
Common mistakeTipping the tape up at the back. Keep it level all the way around.

Front to Nape

Step 02 · Secondary measurement

Nape comfort

Front to Nape

Start at your natural hairline at the center of your forehead. Run the tape back over the crown to the nape of your neck where your hairline ends. Let the tape follow the curve of your head.

Why it mattersDetermines nape comfort over a full day. If slightly short, you'll feel it by afternoon.
Common mistakeStarting from the scalp instead of the hairline. Always begin at the hairline.

Ear to Ear

Step 03 · Secondary measurement

Front stability

Ear to Ear

Begin at the top of one ear where it starts to curve. Bring the tape up and over the crown to the same point on the opposite ear. The tape runs across the top of your head, not around it.

Why it mattersControls whether the front stays in place. If too small, the wig will gradually ride back over the course of the day.
Common mistakeStarting at the earlobe instead of the top curve. This adds length unnecessarily.

Understanding your size

Your cap has a range

The adjustable back strap gives you roughly half an inch of flexibility in each direction.
If you're between sizes, sizing up always works — a slightly larger cap adjusted with the strap fits better than a slightly small one.
A full day of wear tells you more than 10 minutes. Nape comfort reveals itself over hours.

On comfort and security

A well-fitting wig should feel comfortable — not tight, not grippy.

"Comfortable is correct.
Tight is not security."
